Lonesome Dove River Retreat is the perfect place for a family vacation. It is a short walk across the street to the crystal clear Blanco River where you can just sit and enjoy the peacefulness of the flowing water or go for a swim. Fishing with the kids is a favorite pass time of many as is just sitting in a lawn chair in the cool water and relaxing. In the evening you can sit on the porch and enjoy a beautiful hill country sunset with deer grazing on the lawn. 
 
The spacious house is well suited for large groups and will sleep eighteen comfortably. The main house has four bedrooms and four full en-suite bathrooms. This feature make this property a favorite for groups who need to get ready for a wedding at one of the many nearby wedding venues including the Old Glory Ranch just 1 mile down the road. 

In the living area of the main house you'll find a large open space with ample seating, and flat screen TV mounted over the electric fireplace. The updated kitchen boasts new stainless steel appliances including double ovens. The dining room features a show-stopping stainless steel table with seating for eight. There is also four barstools for additional seating. 

The one bedroom guest cabin is included in the price and can sleep an additional four guest. There is a king size bed in the bedroom and a queen size sofa sleeper in the living area. There is also a full kitchen, dining area, two flat screen TV's and a large covered porch area. 

Most guests spend the majority of their time gathered under the outdoor pavilion with ample seating, propane grill, and outdoor fireplace. Lonesome Dove is only one mile from the Wimberley town square, 45 minutes from downtown Austin, and about one hour from San Antonio.

"We had a wonderful ladies reunion at the BEAUTIFUL Lonesome Dove Inn! The inn's amenities were spectacular, and we were all pleased with its cleanliness and perfect Texas Hilll country charming and comfortable furnishings! The outdoor pavilion provided us with the perfect view of the Blanco River and deer! We also loved the close proximity (walking distance) to the Wimberley square for shopping and nearby eateries - San Angel Mexican restaurant, The Leaning Pear, Cypress Creek Cafe and The Wimberley Cafe. "My sister booked this house for us to stay in for a mini-reunion in Wimberly and it was absolutely perfect. I was surprised at how well it was updated, since my experience previously with other vacation rentals involves outdated/unwanted furniture and out of date appliances and decor. 
But Lonesome Dove was very cool inside and the kitchen had all the things we needed. 

The floors are stained concrete so they are a little slippery when wet. But overall we were very pleased, especially with the clawfoot tubs and the number of beds. It was near the river and downtown, easy to get around from the home base." - Gloria D

"A group of 4 "60ish" couples spent Easter weekend at this property. We travel as a group several times a year and it is often difficult to find a 4Br-4B property. This one was perfect. There is a large living/dining/ kitchen area that is well stocked. Two bedrooms adjoin this area and the other two bedrooms are on opposite ends of the porch, providing privacy for each couple. There is a large outside deck just steps from the house, the view is of River Road....you cannot really see the river. It is very close to the business area of town. A plus for us this particular weekend was Wimberly Market Days and a beautiful Easter Sunrise Service on the top of a mountain! Overall, this is a great property and we would rent it again!" - Victoria C

“Beautiful house and property! Exactly as described in the listing, if not better. It was difficult to tell from the photos, but the house is situated just across the street from the Blanco River. There are no structures in front of it besides the covered porch and road, so the house has an unobstructed view of the water. Our group of four couples travels together frequently, and the layout of this house was the most ideal for us out of every house we've ever rented. Each couple had their own (very large) bedroom and private bathroom. Every bedroom had an extra daybed (some with a trundle), so this home could easily work for four families with kids, too! The open-concept shared space - kitchen, dining room and living room - were very large, and the couches & recliners were extremely comfortable. The home has an expansive yard, covered porch and fire pit. There is plenty of parking on the back gravel driveway, for at least 10 SUVs/trucks. Our group is fairly active, so we prefer to walk when possible. Were able to easily to the nearby Sugar Shack Bakery and to The Leaning Pear (we liked it so much we ate there twice). Both were a quarter mile from the house (slightly hilly). The shops at Wimberley square were super close, too - a half mile from the house. I would recommend walking during peak times as parking can be difficult. There is a large, brand new HEB within a mile of the house and the location was very convenient for picking up groceries and restocking beverages. Besides preparing sandwiches and snacks, we didn't do too much cooking at the house, but the two grills appeared to be well-maintained and the kitchen was stocked with prep and serving essentials. The mosquitos were crazy, but that's to be expected after such a rainy year. Our group was coming from Houston and we were concerned about flooding with all of the recent rains. Even though the water level was higher than normal, the house is situated high enough that the water was unlikely to ever reach the road, much less the elevated house, so flooding was not an issue. In all, we really enjoyed our stay, and we would absolutely rent again! ” - Hayley S
